A Day to Remember

We decided before leaving the hospital with our new blessing that we didn't want to wait any longer to get married. The way things had been going, who knew what was going to happen next. We needed to save money, and decided on a simple ceremony. We settled on April 28th.

Soon we brought our tiny baby home. She was doing so well, she was released on time. Every single time I looked at her I was thankful and amazed at how tiny yet healthy she was. She took my mind off all the negatives pertaining to how precious life is, and made me focus on all the positives.

I loved watching her daddy with her. His sincere devotion and tenderness made me fall in love with him even more. My 1st marriage had fallen apart when my daughter was only a week old, and I wasn't married when I had my son, so watching them together and seeing their connection was a new experience for me that left me so unbelievably enthralled. We just couldn't get enough of her or each other. I felt so torn. I had been through and lost so much, yet I had also been so blessed.

It was hectic trying to plan a wedding with a new baby and I only had a month and $500 to work with. We decided on a clearing over looking a local lake. We had spent a lot of time there together and it was not only beautiful but free. It was also very near where my mother was buried. We rented a picnic shelter by the water for the reception. I ordered a gown on ebay, along with my daughters' dresses and his cumberbun and bow tie.

He had long been a Carolina Tarheels fan. So dedicated he has 2 Carolina tatoos. I loved the colors so we decided on a Tarheel theme. We ordered wedding bands and decorations online. We had enough left over for a Walmart cake and a couple of ferns. Luckily, our boys already had suits. My daughter helped me decorate a basket we already had for my beautiful 1 month old flower girl.

We were able to borrow chairs, and had good friends who agreed to play our music and take pictures. We decided to write our own vows. What do you say to a man who nearly destroyed you then saved you in your darkest hour? How do you express that you've come to need the sound of his voice more then the beating of your own heart? I couldn't find words strong enough to convey what he truly meant to me and how thankful I was for his love.

My daughter agreed to be my Maid of Honor, and my son was going to walk me down the aisle. His son and his cousin were going to be his best men, and his son would also double as the ring bearer. My soon to be mother in law would carry our little flower girl.

The weeks flew by and everything arrived on time. Our dresses fit great! Everything fell into place, which made me nervous. One thing we didn't take into account when planning an outdoor wedding and reception was the weather. We were now only a few days away from the big day and they were calling for rain. We had no plan B and were going to have to rely on fate. We had done all we could. It was out of our hands now and it was either going to be amazing or a complete disaster. Either way, I was going to leave there Mrs. Bradley Mullins and it was going to be a day to remember.
