Hijacked Honeymoon

Considering I wasn't about to leave my one month old baby who was nursing, we decided in lieu of a real honeymoon, we'd take a long weekend away and bring her along. We'd take a real honeymoon later, (still haven't). The reception went great with only one real issue. My daughter had made plans to stay with a friend. My son was going to stay with my dad and stepmom. However, they decided not to stay for the reception.

My feelings were a bit hurt when a little time passed and my son still hadn't come to tell us bye. Then, I realized he was playing basketball with some other kids. They had left without him. Apparently in all the comotion, the plans weren't clear and they were under the impression he was staying with someone else. They didn't carry cell phones and lived over an hour away, so returning for him was not an option. Luckily the parents of the friend my daughter was staying with offered to let him stay as well. He liked playing with her little brother so it worked out. Crisis averted.

We headed off to our cabin a little over an hour away, at Natural Bridge Resort Park, which is where we had our first date. It was very late when we arrived, but the cabin was beautiful! We were so excited. We were reminiscing about how wonderful the day had been when I noticed a spider. I've always hated spiders! He disposed of it and didn't really think much about it until we entered the next room. Another spider. Still optimistic, we took a few pictures and were trying to unwind when...you guessed it, yet another spider. In the span of about an hour, we continued observing these creepy crawly creatures in every room. We actually lost count! They were all different kinds and sizes. I was terrified to put the baby down anywhere. Obviously we couldn't stay there and risk her being bitten. No one was in the office, so we headed back onto the road in search of a hotel.

We finally found a room in a run down little place in the next town. It was very dated, but it was clean, safe, and bug free! By now we were exhausted. We spent the night there and headed to a Best Western about an hour away the next morning. Despite it being our wedding night and attributing the spiders trying to hijack our honeymoon to the fact they had just sprayed insecticides, they only agreed to refund a portion of our money. I spent half the next morning posting nasty reviews, warning others to avoid doing business with them.

The rest of our trip was fantastic! In the end, we had a wonderful time. It didn't matter that it didn't go as planned. We had accepted that nothing ever did with us. Now we had new places with new memories together. Memories as husband and wife. We were finally married and ready to start our new life together. Even a cabin full of spiders couldn't bring us down.
